Herb Grilled Salmon Recipe

A simple and flavorful salmon recipe, ideal for a quick summer meal, is lemon herb grilled salmon, which is topped with lemon juice, fresh parsley, and cilantro.

After buying 6 pounds of salmon from ButcherBox and eating it frequently this summer, we’ve been on a salmon kick, so I’ve been meaning to share this herb-grilled salmon recipe for a while now.

My family has a house in Lewes, Delaware, and we used to go there every weekend when I was growing up. My dad owns a boat, so I was immersed with being on the water, fishing, and seafood at a young age. We eat seafood all year round, but in the summer it brings back such good memories.

Fortunately, there are amazing delivery services like ButcherBox or you can pick some up at your local grocery store. You can also find wild caught seafood in the frozen section at most stores. Living in Austin means that saltwater is about a 4 hour drive away.

We usually always have our freezer stocked with frozen seafood for quick dinners during the week. While fresh seafood is unbeatable, for many people, frozen options are more cost-effective and convenient.

Wild caught salmon is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for your heart and brain health, inflammation, circulation, memory, and blood sugar control. Salmon is one of the healthiest foods you can eat, but I like to make sure we are getting wild caught if we can.

The surprising part is that salmon’s high concentration of omega-3 fats comes from the natural diet they have while living in the wild, which includes mackerel, sardines, krill, and other fish. Farmed salmon do not have access to this natural diet, so their health benefits are different.

I love adding a bunch to our ButcherBox orders – I stock up when they have it on sale! I also guarantee the taste will be 100x better, so if you can, buy wild caught when possible.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. (0.4 kg) salmon (top loin, loin or second cut)
  • lemon wedges, for serving
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chopped Italian basil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped Italian parsley
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 dashes ground black pepper

Instruction:

  1. Mix all the Marinade ingredients in a bowl, stir to mix well.
  2. Marinate the salmon with the Marinade for 20 minutes.
  3. Heat up a gas grill to medium heat, at 350°F (176°C). Remove the marinated salmon from the Marinade and place it on top of the gas grill. Place the salmon, skin side down at a 45 degree angle to form beautiful char marks. Grill the salmon for 4 minutes, uninterrupted. Turn the salmon over and grill for another 4 minutes, uninterrupted. Baste with the remaining Marinade mixture while grilling.
  4. Depending on the type of salmon cuts you use, you might need to grill it for longer (or shorter) time. The salmon is cooked when white stuff starts to seep out from the inside. If the salmon is not cooked yet but already charred, move the salmon to the indirect heat side of the gas grill. Cover the lid and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the inside is completely cooked through. Remove from the grill and serve immediately with lemon wedges, dill sauce, or sweet chili sauce.
