Salmon Recipes Grill Pan

Use an outdoor grill or grill pan to prepare the best grilled salmon with a straightforward and flavorful marinade; it’s the ideal dinner in minutes!

Like our favorite fish tacos, this grilled salmon recipe is one of those that I go with and keep in frequent rotation in our meal plan because it meets all the criteria for a favorite recipe: it’s simple, it’s healthy, and everyone loves it.

Before it even hits the grill, I marinate the salmon to infuse the fish with flavor. Grilling salmon is one of my favorite ways to prepare salmon because the hot grill lends delicious flavor to this seafood staple.

You won’t believe how easy it is to make the marinade, which only requires four ingredients from your pantry plus black pepper, which we’re using in this recipe.

In the winter, this recipe is ideal for grilling inside on a grill pan and is a summer meal you’ll want to prepare all season long.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 3 Tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 6 Tablespoons Avocado oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely minced garlic
  • 4 salmon filets

Instruction:

  1. Add the dijon mustard, soy sauce, avocado oil and garlic to a small mixing bowl, and whisk to combine.
  2. Pour half of the marinade over the raw fish, and reserve the other half for serving.
  3. Allow the fish to marinate for 30 minutes.
  4. Spray a grill pan with non-stick cooking spray, and allow it to heat over medium high heat for two minutes or so, until it is hot.
  5. Place the fish into the pan. I like to do the presentation side down first. If you are using skin-on salmon, put the pink meat-y side down first, and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes.
  6. Flip it over, and cook on the other side for another 4 to 5 minutes. (Note: Cooking time may vary for thickness of the fish. Mine were pretty thin, so I did 4 minutes on each side.)
  7. Remove the fish from the pan, and place it on a serving plate, allowing the fish to rest for 10 minutes. The fish will start out raw in the middle, but it will continue cooking (even after it is removed from the heat) as it rests.
  8. Drizzle with reserved marinade. Hint: A little goes a long way. (Note: Make sure not to use the marinade that touched the raw fish! That portion should be discarded to avoid contamination.)
  9. Serve and enjoy!

FAQ

How long should salmon be cooked in a pan?

Place the salmon in the pan skin-side up and cook until golden brown on one side, about 4 minutes; flip the fish over with a spatula and cook for an additional 3 minutes or until the skin is crisp, if desired; the skin can be served or easily removed with a knife or spoon.

How long do you cook salmon on grill?

Grill salmon skin-side up for 6 to 8 minutes, then carefully flip it over and cook for another 6 to 8 minutes, or until the salmon is just cooked through and flakes easily. Brush the grill with oil to prevent sticking.

Can I grill salmon directly on grill?

After your grill has heated through completely, place salmon fillets directly on the grill, skin side down, and close the grill. Grill the fillets for 6 minutes, then flip them over and grill for another 2 minutes skin-side up.

How do you grill salmon without a grill?

As soon as the pan is hot, add olive oil. Place the salmon SKIN SIDE UP and set the timer for 3 minutes. You always start with the skin side up because dry spices on the flesh can burn if cooked for a longer period of time than 3 minutes.
