Barbeque Grilled Salmon Recipe

Most people don’t think to try barbeque sauce with their salmon, but I think you will really like it! This simple grilled salmon with bbq sauce recipe is a snap to make and is really delicious!

Welcome to My Kitchen Serenity! Grilled salmon filets are probably my second favorite way to eat fish (fried catfish is my first favorite), as they have a deliciously rich, buttery flavor and a very tender texture.

You will enjoy this simple bbq grilled salmon if quick and delicious appeal to you because salmon cooks up quicker than other meats (steak or burgers), which is great if you are short on time.

Store-bought barbecue sauce is used in this incredibly simple recipe, and we add our own additional seasonings to boost the flavor. I love the flavor Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce with Brown Sugar gives the salmon.

Ingredients:

  • 4 8 ounces each Salmon Filets (with skin on)
  • 2/3 cup Sweet Baby Ray's with Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Lime Juice
  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 1/3 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/3 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce

Instruction:

  1. Mix all the ingredients listed above (except salmon) in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Preheat your grill to medium heat.
  3. Use a brush to apply a thick coating of the bbq sauce to each salmon filet.  Note:  Be sure to check your salmon if you use a brush with bristles.  Sometimes the bristles come out and you end up with bristles in your meal.  I hate it when I find bristles in my food!  Use a silicone basting brush as opposed to one with bristles to avoid this problem.
  4. Place a sheet of aluminum foil over the grill grate then add the filets to the grill.  Close the grill cover.
  5. Cook salmon on your grill at medium heat for approximately 12 to 15 minutes.  For food safety purposes, make sure you grill the salmon to an internal temperature of 145 F.
  6. Remove the filets when they flake easily with a fork.

FAQ

How do you cook salmon on a BBQ grill?

Grill salmon skin-side up for 6 to 8 minutes, then carefully flip it over and cook for another 6 to 8 minutes, or until the salmon is just cooked through and flakes easily. Brush the grill with oil to prevent sticking.

Do you have to flip salmon on the grill?

The salmon will be medium-rare when an instant read thermometer inserted into the thickest portion reads 120 degrees F. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving to allow for some carryover cooking. Salmon cooks quickly on the grill (typically no more than 12 minutes total), so don’t walk away or get distracted.
