Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs Rib Eye Steak ((See Note 1))
  • 2 tsp Montreal seasoning ((See Note 2))
  • 2 tbsp compound butter ((See Note 3))

Instruction:

  1. Remove compound butter (See Note 3) from refrigerator to come to room temperature and slice into 1/2" pieces. Set aside.
  2. Gently massage the Montreal seasoning (See Note 2) over both sides of each rib eye steak (See Note 1) and let the meat dry marinate for at least 20 minutes. In the meantime start up the grill to 450°F to 500°F for a great sear.
  3. Take the seasoned steaks to the hot grill, cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, longer if desired (this is for 1-inch or thicker). See Note 4 for cooking times and temperature.
  4. Top with a slice of compound butter before removing from grill.
  5. Remove steaks and let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing.

FAQ

How long do you cook a ribeye steak on the grill?

A meat thermometer should read 130°F, and the steaks should rest for 5 minutes before being served, lightly covered with foil. For the ideal medium-rare degree of doneness, your ribeye steak grill time should be 9–12 minutes for a 1-inch steak and 12–15 minutes for a 112-inch steak, turning about 1 minute before the halfway point.

What is the best way to grill a ribeye steak?

The steaks should be seared on both sides for 3 minutes with the lid open on an outdoor grill that has been heated to 450 to 500 degrees. After that, the heat should be lowered to medium-low and the lid should be left closed until the steaks are cooked to the desired doneness (130 degrees F for medium-rare).

How do you grill a ribeye steak on a gas grill?

If your steaks are nearly done, you can move them over to the cold side of the grill. Use a meat thermometer to check if you’ve cooked steaks to your preferences. Place ribeye steaks on the grill. Cook over direct heat for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium rare. Wonder why you need a two-zone setup.

Should you marinate a ribeye steak?

More expensive steaks, like ribeye, strip steak, and filet mignon, end up juicy and tender without the help of a marinade. In most cases, you’ll want to skip the steak marinade unless you buy budget-friendly cuts.
