Grilled Shrimp Marinade Recipe

The shrimp kabobs can be on your table in just 20 minutes, making them ideal for a busy night. They are shrimp marinated in garlic, lemon, and herbs, then threaded onto sticks and cooked to perfection.

Even though I especially enjoy these shrimp kabobs on the grill, they can also be broiled in the oven. Shrimp skewers are a straightforward but filling dinner option.

My family loves these quick grilled shrimp skewers, which are easy to make, marinated, threaded onto sticks, and seared to perfection. Add some lemon and herbs to the top, and you’ve got the ultimate quick dinner.

  • β…“ cup olive oil
  • ΒΌ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ΒΌ teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of pepper
  • 2 lbs. raw, peeled, and deveined shrimp ((I use extra large or jumbo shrimp))
  • Optional garnish: fresh lime wedges and additional chopped parsley

  1. In a jar with a lid, combine all of the marinade ingredients. Shake until completely combined.
  2. Place shrimp in a large zip-top bag or bowl. Pour the marinade in the bag with the shrimp. Seal the top of the bag and place shrimp in the refrigerator to marinate for at least 15-20 minutes (but not more than 2 or 3 hours).
  3. Remove shrimp from the bag and discard the marinade. Thread shrimp onto skewers and grill over high heat for 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway through. If you prefer, you can also broil the shrimp on a sheet pan in the oven for about 7-8 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. Garnish with fresh lime wedges and additional chopped parsley.

How long should you marinate shrimp?

If your marinade is non-acidic (olive oil, garlic, herbs), you could marinate for an hour or more. If your marinade is acidic (lemon, lime, orange, etc.), 30 minutes or less should be fine. Any more than that and the acid will start to break down the delicate shrimp meat and make it mushy.

What is the best way to prepare shrimp to grill?

Place the skewers of shrimp on the hot side of the grill, brush with olive oil, season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until the shrimp are just beginning to turn pink and opaque in the center.

Should you soak shrimp before grilling?

Even though shrimp naturally come from salt water, it’s a good idea to brine the shrimp before most shrimp recipes call for grilling, broiling, or baking because the moisture from the brine adds moisture to the shrimp and prevents it from drying out.

What should I season my shrimp with?

Simple seasonings like salt, pepper, and paprika are great options because they balance most flavors well and all go very well together. The best seasoning for shrimp Citrus fruit like lemon and lime, garlic, and herbs are the flavors that will always compliment seafood.
