Grilled Tofu Marinade Recipe

This Grilled Tofu is ideal for the summer grilling season and surprisingly simple to throw together. If you’re looking for a grilling recipe that’s both high in protein and easily grillable, I’ve got you covered.

As you might have guessed, I’m a pretty big fan of tofu. I know it’s not everyone’s favorite, but I LOVE it, and over the past couple of years, I’ve posted quite a few tofu recipes. One question I’ve gotten a few times is “Can you grill tofu?” Why, Becky, you can!

This is ideal for cookouts and taking to barbecues when you’re unsure if there will be any veggie protein options (grilled corn is great but you don’t want to get stuck with a plate full of sides, amiright? mmm…summer grilled sides are pretty good actually). I’ve been grilling my tofu for a few years now and I am OBSESSED! I love the smokey crust that the tofu gets after being on the grill for a bit.

Add soy sauce, sugar, pepper and Ā¼ cup water, and cook, stirring to dissolve the sugar, about 2 minutes. Pour hot marinade over tofu. Gently turn tofu slices to evenly coat, then cover dish tightly with plastic wrap to seal in heat. Refrigerate for 6 hours (or up to 8 hours), flipping tofu slices halfway through.

FAQ

How long should you marinate tofu?

You’ll want to let your tofu sit in a marinade for at least 30 minutes before grilling it because, as I mentioned, it takes on any flavors you want.

How long should you marinate tofu before cooking?

The minimum marinating time for tofu is 15 minutes; for the tastiest results, marinate the tofu overnight. For an extra-crispy crust, roll slices or cubes of marinated tofu in some rice flour, potato starch, corn flour, or grated coconut before pan-frying.
