Grilled Sirloin Steak Recipes

Learn how to grill moist and tender sirloin steak with the seasoning of your choice or my special marinade. Sirloin steak is affordable and delicious with a hearty beef taste.

I originally called this recipe Bourbon Street Sirloin Steak a la Applebees, which seemed fine in 2010, but they changed their recipe a few years ago, and I preferred the old Applebee version slightly more than the current version, but my recipe is superior to both.

If this were a throw-down, I’d winβ€”better taste, very tender, and moister than the 2010 (or current) Applebees version. I’ve always wondered how a relatively inexpensive piece of beef got so darn good.

The basic method of grilling sirloin works with the seasoning of your choice, so if you don’t have time for the marinade, skip it and just season and cook. A simple marinade for about an hour, followed by 9 to 12 minutes on the grill.

Last but not least, the Applebees version didn’t contain any bourbon because it was named after Bourbon Street, not the drink.

FAQ

Is sirloin steak good for grilling?

These cuts of steak, which are lean but still have great tenderness and beefy flavor, are also known as boneless top sirloin steaks or center-cut steaks.

How long should I grill a sirloin steak?

For a 1-inch Top Sirloin steak, cook it for 9–12 minutes (on gas or charcoal) for the ideal medium-rare level of doneness. For a 112-inch steak, cook it for 12–15 minutes (on either grill type). Turn your steak about 1 minute before the halfway point.

What is the best way to cook sirloin steak so it’s tender?

The steaks should be cooked in a cast-iron skillet over high heat for 1-2 minutes, then turned over and cooked in the oven for 10 minutes or less, depending on the thickness of the sirloin.
