For a full ham steak dinner, serve this with any number of side dishes, such as mac and cheese, potato salad, eggs and fried potatoes, cheesy cauliflower and broccoli casserole, homemade biscuits, baked beans, breakfast casseroles, or fried apples. This recipe is ideal for small families or couples who love ham but do not want to bake a full ham. Sometimes those full hams can lead to days and days of eating ham.

Prepare grill or broiler. For barbecue sauce, combine brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and mustard; mix well. Brush 2 tablespoons of sauce over one side of each ham slice. Grill (sauce sides up) over medium coals or broil 4 to 5 inches from heat source for 4 minutes.
  1. Cut outer edge of fat on ham diagonally at 1-inch intervals to prevent curling (do not cut into ham). Mix mustard, honey and preserves.
  2. Heat coals or gas grill for direct heat. Grill ham uncovered 4 to 6 inches from medium-high heat 4 minutes. Turn ham; brush with mustard mixture. Grill 4 minutes longer.

How long does it take to grill a ham on the grill?

If you are using a precooked ham and cooking it between 225 and 250 degrees F, then grilling a ham should take about 15 to 20 minutes per pound of ham. Most hams weigh in the 8 to 12-pound range, so this size ham would take about 2 to 3 hours to be fully heated through.

How do you keep a ham moist on the grill?

Place the ham cut-side down on a piece of aluminum foil to prevent the end from drying out. This will help keep in the moisture while exposing the skin to the heat and flavor of the grill.

Is it good to grill ham?

There are many excellent reasons to grill a ham, including the ability to add flavors by using a dry rub and glaze, concentration of the ham’s natural juices, and development of a flavorful, slightly smoky, and crisp crust.

Do ham steaks need to be cooked?

Look for cooked ham steaks; they will be labeled on the package as “fully cooked,” “cured,” or “hickory smoked.” Ham steaks are sold both “fresh” and “pre-cooked.” If they are not pre-cooked, they should not be consumed before cooking.
